Pinoys Captured by Somali Pirates
Somali pirates seized 21 Filipino crewmen of MV Free Goddess (IMO 9107045) in Yemen. The Department of Foreign Affairs(DFA) confirmed yesterday.
The Liberian -flagged bulk carrier was attacked on Feb. 7, 2012 in the Northeast of Scotra Island, Yemen by an unknown number of Somali pirates. The carrier ship is headed to the Somali Coast when the attack happened. It is carrying steel cables and the 21 Filipino crewmen.
Negotiations with the pirates are now being tracked by the embassies in Bharain.
To date, 47 Filipino seafarers are on the hands of pirates.
